I never knew how much I took my health for granted until I fell in love with someone who has chronic illnesses. When we first started dating, it seemed like there was something new each week that I had to learn about and understand.
Before meeting my girlfriend, I had never heard of Fibromyalgia and Ulcerative Colitis (UC) before. When I learned that she had both illnesses, it was difficult for me to understand how each of those illnesses affected her.
One thing that became immediately apparent was that I would need to pay more attention to my health. My health, and how I viewed eating and exercising habits became more into focus just from being around someone who had such a large amount of health and dietary issues.
My goal for this website is to share my experiences of loving and living with someone who has chronic illnesses. I want to avoid using the phrase "is chronically ill," because she is not defined by her illnesses, and through living with her, that has become extremely evident.
I am also going to share my personal development and how watching my girlfriend's unending drive to become a better and more complete person has also driven me to be unwavering in my growth.
